Leisure/Activities

The Lakeside region offers innumerable leisure and sporting activities to suit any interest. Classes in art, painting, handicrafts, music, computers, and Spanish (both conversational and structured) are widely available, along with a wealth of art galleries – some offering participatory art events. The large number of active charitable, civic and social groups makes it easy to meet people and become a part of the community.

There are two active theater companies with year-round productions – the Lakeside Little Theatre and Bravo Theater – and a very active music venue (the Spotlight Club) which features a wide variety of live musical genres in a supper club-like setting. There’s also the Lake Chapala Municipal Auditorium – a cultural center with 465 seats, a stage large enough for an 80-piece symphony orchestra and excellent acoustics which plays host to an annual chamber music festival and numerous other performances throughout the year. And if film is your pleasure, there are two nearby movie cinemas, MovieSpace and Cinemas del Lago.

Tennis, golf, pickle ball, horseback riding, boating, fishing, hiking, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and various exercise groups and gyms are available for sports and exercise enthusiasts.

Active social groups in the area include Duplicate and Progressive Bridge Clubs, The Humane Society, garden clubs, The American Legion, The Writers’ Group, Needle Pushers, Daughters of the American Revolution, Genealogy Club, Computer Club, Chess Club, and more. The list goes on as there are more than 40 English language clubs and charitable organizations lakeside.

Keeping in touch and staying informed at home is easy too, as there are numerous English-speaking cable and streaming television services which offer dozens of the most popular TV channels, films, documentaries and TV series from both the United States and Canada.
